Automatic brake
On some modifications of Renault 19, at the customer's request, and on the 16-valve modification, an anti-lock braking system is installed as standard (abbreviated: ABS) bosch. At the same time, electronic units take on some functions for adjusting the braking system and prevent, for example, when braking to a complete stop, dangerous uncontrolled skidding of the car.
ABS - for disciplined drivers
Many drivers believe that some of the additional safety devices installed on their car, such as wide or winter tires, all-wheel drive or a large number of headlights, allow them to drive very riskily. However, very often they have to "come down to earth" and take into account the harsh reality. In the same way, ABS cannot perform miracles, although many want to believe it. ABS provides additional safety only with a normal calm driving style, since the braking distance on the road is not reduced in all situations.
- ABS provides "optimal jerk braking" when braking to a complete stop, so that complete wheel locking is simply excluded.
- The wheels rotate when braking to a complete stop, even on slippery ice, so you can keep the car from skidding.
- The main quality of ABS is that the car remains controllable even under strong braking. However, this requires a stronger turn of the steering wheel.
- Therefore, practice on a special autodrome to brake to a complete stop with turning wheels and try to go around safe obstacles.
- At the same time, "mercilessly" press the brake pedal to the stop with your foot - the ABS will dose the braking force for you. The system works both when braking in a straight line and when braking with the wheels turned.
- Don't be surprised if the brake pedal pulsates. If the ABS is working, this pedal oscillation is completely normal.
- In extreme cases, even with ABS, you will have to release the brake pedal to be able to cope with the extreme situation when cornering with vigorous braking.
