As standard on all Renault 19 models with rear drum brakes, each wheel brake cylinder has a brake drive pressure limiter built into it. These limiters are continuously adjustable and ensure that when the foot presses the brake pedal, less braking force is transferred to the rear wheels than to the front wheels. This prevents premature locking of the rear wheels.

If, when checking the brake system, you have determined that the rear wheels are braked on one side and lock up before the front ones, then you need to have the brakes checked at a car repair shop.
