There are two main goals to achieve when braking the vehicle in an emergency: shortening the stopping distance and maintaining control of the vehicle. ABS prevents the wheel from locking when the brake pedal is pressed hard, which increases the stability and controllability of the car when driving around a sudden obstacle. In addition, the braking distance is reduced even with poor grip on the road.
Each operation of the ABS is accompanied by vibration of the brake pedal. This indicates that the grip of the tires has reached its limit and the driving style needs to be changed.
ABS malfunctions
Two situations are possible:
1 - the lamp lights up on the instrument panel
Braking will occur as on a car not equipped with ABS. Contact a Renault service station;
2 - both lamps on the instrument panel light up
Faulty ABS and braking system. Stop as quickly as possible, but don't brake too hard. Contact a Renault service station.
