The anti-lock braking system is designed to prevent the wheels from losing traction on the road: locking the wheels and causing the vehicle to lose control.

When braking a car in an emergency, it is necessary to achieve two main goals: reducing the braking distance and maintaining control over the car. ABS does not allow the wheel to lock when the brake pedal is pressed hard, which increases the stability and controllability of the car when going around a sudden obstacle. In addition, the braking distance is reduced even with poor traction of the wheels with the road.

Each activation of the ABS is accompanied by a vibration of the brake pedal. This indicates that the tires' grip on the road has reached its limit and it is necessary to change the driving style.

ABS malfunctions

There are two possible situations:

1 - the lamp on the instrument panel lights up

Braking will occur as in a car without ABS. Contact a RENAULT service station;

2 - both lamps on the instrument panel light up

The ABS and brake system are faulty. Stop as quickly as possible, but do not brake too sharply. Contact a RENAULT service station.
