Attention! In order to avoid damage to the steering mechanism, it is recommended to use a device for removing and installing the inner ball joint of the steering rod Dir 1305-01 and Dir 1306 during work.
Special tool:
- Axle joint replacement tool - Dir. 1305-01
- Temporary Steering Rack Support - Dir. 1306
- Ball joint puller - T.Av. 476
Tightening torques:
- Wheel bolt - 90 Nm
- Ball joint nut - 37 Nm
- Wheel adjusting sleeve bolt - 17 Nm
- Axial joint - 50 Nm
Removing
- raise the front of the car and install safety supports under the body;
- remove the steering tip as described above;
- remove the plastic clamp securing the bellows of the steering rod and remove the boot, which is recommended to be replaced regardless of its condition;
- turn the wheels so that the gear part of the rack comes out of the steering gear housing;

- install the Dir 1306 device on the toothed part of the rack, which is a clamp for fixing the rack from turning (Figure 6.26);

- in this position, use tool Dir 1305-01 to unlock the inner joint of the steering rod (Figure 6.27);

- unscrew the inner joint from the steering rod (Figure 6.28);
- check the inner hinge - no tight turning or excessive hinge play is allowed;
- inspect the rack teeth, make sure they are intact and not worn;
- The tie rod must not be bent, otherwise replace the rod.
Installation
When assembling a part (3,4) install only new ones.
Note. Details (3,4) are mounted on the steering mechanism with a mechanical drive of the power steering pump.
- before installation, clean the threaded parts of the parts from the sealant;
- Install the thrust washer assembly with lock washer, tie rod inner ball joint, on the rack, having previously applied a small amount of Loctite Frenbloc glue to the pin threads, being careful not to clog the air outlet hole;
- using the tools, tighten the tie rod inner ball joint to the specified torque, remove the tools;
- set the steering to the middle position to equalize the amount of air in the covers;
- install a new corrugated boot and fix it with a new clamp, having previously lubricated the bearing surface of the corrugated boot on the inner ball joint of the steering rod;
- check the air circulation in the system. Squeeze the cover slightly: the cover on the other side should inflate. In this case, the air circulates in the mechanism normally.
Note. The axle joint cover is replaced:
- in case of damage to the cover;
- always when replacing a joint.
