Steering — General Information (Renault Symbol 2)

The steering is of a trauma-safe type. It consists of a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism and a shock-absorbing steering column. The column is connected to the steering mechanism by means of an intermediate shaft with cardan joints. The lower cardan joint is attached to the steering mechanism shaft with an eccentric bolt.



The steering mechanism is mounted on the subframe and connected to the steering knuckles of the front wheels by steering rods with threaded ends, making it possible to adjust the toe-in angles of the front wheels.

The steering mechanism is equipped with a hydraulic or electric booster, which reduces the driver's effort on the steering wheel.

Steering shaft

On the Renault Symbol model, the steering shaft has a collision shock absorption system. The shaft is not serviced or repaired. Before tightening the universal joint mounting bolt, check the shaft length between the joint centers. If the shaft length (L) is not 416.63±1.5 mm, replace the shaft assembly.
