Identifying the noise source
Place the rack against the pinion shaft side and check the amount of backlash by rocking the pinion shaft up and down. If there is any backlash, the noise is generated by the pinion.

On the bottom of the steering gear, use a 10mm Allen key to loosen the adjusting nut (Figure 6.29), bending the kerfed flanges of the adjusting nut. Tighten the nut no more than one notch (one notch) and make sure that the rack moves easily throughout its entire travel. Stake the nut at the points indicated in the figure (i.e. from opposite sides).
