Removal


  • Removal of the cylinder head must be carried out on the engine removed from the vehicle.
  • Remove the cap from the oil filler neck.
  • Remove the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism drive.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir mounting bolt and move it to the side.
  • Remove the plastic shield protecting the wiring harness from the intake manifold.
  • Remove the EGR capsule and its pipe.
  • Remove the intake manifold mounting bolts.
  • Raise the manifold slightly and remove the two screws securing the crankcase ventilation hose, which is secured under the manifold.
  • Remove the intake manifold and its gasket.
  • Remove the two bolts securing the cooling system pipe to the cylinder head on the flywheel side.
  • Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
  • Loosen the oil vapor separation tank mounting bolts and move it to the side.
  • Remove the engine oil inlet and outlet pipes and the cooled support from the turbocharger.
  • Remove the turbocharger support eyes and disconnect the air pipes from the turbocharger.
  • Disconnect the flexible cooling system hose, cables and electrical connectors from the cylinder head.
  • Using the special Renault Mot. 1383 key, disconnect and remove the high pressure pipes.
  • Remove the fuel injectors.
  • Remove the thermal protection washers and injector sealing rings.
  • Remove the cylinder head cover and its gasket.
  • Remove the cylinder head mounting bolts.
  • Remove the cylinder head and gasket.

Installation


  • Clean the cylinder head surface, being careful not to scratch the aluminum alloy the cylinder head is made of. Use Decapjoint solvent to remove any stuck gasket parts.
  • Clean the cylinder block surface that meets the cylinder head gasket.
  • Check for the presence of bushings centering the head on the cylinder block.

  • Check the smooth rotation of the camshaft
  • Install the new cylinder head gasket, centering it on the guide bushings.
  • Lubricate the threads, base of the bolt heads and washers with engine oil.

Note: New bolts must be used to secure the cylinder head. Check that the cylinder head bolt holes in the cylinder block are clean and free of oil

  • Install the cylinder head mounting bolts and tighten them in the sequence shown in Figure 3.52
  • Install the cylinder head cover with the gasket and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
  • Fix the camshaft in the valve timing position.
  • Install a new thermal protection insert and o-ring for each injector (fig. 3.13).
  • Install the injectors.
  • Install and tighten the high pressure pipes using the special Renault Mot. 1383 key.

  • Connect the flexible cooling system hose, cables and electrical connectors to the cylinder head.
  • Install the turbocharger support lugs and connect the air ducts to it
  • Connect the lubrication lines to the turbocharger bearings
  • Secure the oil vapor separation tank with bolts
  • Install the turbocharger heat shield and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
  • Install the intake manifold so as to press the crankcase ventilation pipe.
  • Install the intake manifold with a new gasket and secure with nuts, tightening them to the required torque.
  • Install the EGR capsule together with its pipe.
  • Install the plastic shield to protect the wiring harness on the intake manifold.
  • Install and bolt the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Install the timing belt and valve timing.
  • Install the oil filler neck channel.
