Attention
- To exclude the possibility of unauthorized operation, do not work with pyrotechnic systems (airbags and seat belt pretensioners) near heat sources or open flames.
- The slip ring provides the electrical connection between the steering column and the steering wheel.
It is a strip with conductive tracks (for airbag), the length of which allows you to turn the steering wheel 2.5 turns (from the stop plus an additional area for safety) in each direction.
Before removing the slip ring, block all ignition circuits of the airbag pyrotechnic elements as follows:
- connect the XR25 portable diagnostic tool to the vehicle;
- turn on the ignition;
- set the ISO switch to S8 and enter code D49;
- Using the XR25 device, block the control unit and enter command G 80*. When this function is engaged, all ignition circuits are blocked, the airbag warning lamp in the instrument cluster and the left barograph 14 of the XR25 are illuminated (new control units are delivered in a locked state).
- wait two seconds for the control unit to automatically discharge.
- turn off the ignition
Removal
- Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery
- On the back of the steering wheel, remove the two screws, lift the airbag, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the driver's airbag from the center of the steering wheel. Place the airbag in a safe place with the bag facing up.
- Disconnect the connectors from the horn switch and cruise control system.
- Remove the steering wheel mounting nut. Using chalk, a marker or paint, apply alignment marks to the steering wheel and the end of the steering shaft. The marks are necessary to reinstall the steering wheel to its original position.
- Use a puller to remove the steering wheel from the shaft. Do not knock on the shaft or steering wheel when attempting to remove the steering wheel.
- Use adhesive tape to secure the position of the airbag spiral wire. because. Otherwise, it may be misaligned and broken when installing the steering wheel.
Installation
- The steering is in the center position if it is locked with an anti-theft device at the wheels. standing to move in a straight line.
- Check that the slip ring is blocked with adhesive tape. Otherwise, center the slip ring as follows:
- Turn the upper part of the slip ring counterclockwise. When approaching the extreme position, rotation of the ring becomes difficult. don't put any effort into it (pic. 9.7);
- now turn the top of the ring slightly clockwise and make sure. that the slip ring is in the position shown in Figure 9.8,
- turn the slip ring clockwise again two full turns and then make sure that the slip ring is in the previously described position.
- In accordance with the previously marked marks, install the steering wheel and secure it with the nut, tightening it to the required torque.
- Install the airbag:
- Connect the connector to the airbag. Place it in the center of the steering wheel and secure it with two screws. Operate the airbag and seat belt pretensioner.
Use the XR25 to check for any faults in the security system. If everything is ok. unlock the computer using the G 81°command. Make sure that the left barograph 14 of the XR25 is not illuminated.
