Preliminary checks

Before checking the wheel alignment angles, you must do the following:
  • check the condition and size of the tires, tire pressure and degree of wear;
  • check the condition of the hinge joints, silent blocks and elastic supports, the absence of play in the hinges and supports, play in the front wheel hub bearings.
  • check the end runout of the wheels, it should not exceed 1.2 mm;
  • check the condition of the suspension, i.e. the height of the control points of the lower part of the body should be the same.

Determining the steering midpoint

  • To prevent the vehicle from drifting, before checking and adjusting the front wheel alignment angles, it is necessary to check whether the steering is in the midpoint position
  • Remove the vehicle ignition key.
  • Use the anti-theft device to lock the steering wheel, with the steering wheel set to the center point.
  • In this position, set up the measuring equipment and begin testing.
  • When adjusting the wheel alignment, ensure equal dimensions (X, Fig. 10.31) from tie rod ends to tie rod ends.

Fig. 10.28. Check points of the lower part of the body H1 - the distance between the axis of rotation of the front wheel and the floor is measured on the subframe vertically from point A (fig. 10.29); H2 - distance between the lower part of the engine frame (at point A) and the floor; H5 - distance between the rear cross beam and the floor.
