Preliminary checks
Before checking the alignment of the front wheels, perform the following checks and check for any imperfections.
Tire symmetry on the same axle:
- dimensions;
- air pressure;
- degree of wear.
Articulations:
- state of silent blocks and elastic supports;
- backlash in ball joints;
- free run (backlash) in the bearings of the front wheel hubs;
- end runout of wheels: (eliminated with measuring equipment);
- the same height of the control points of the lower part of the body (suspension condition).
Determining the Steering Midpoint
To avoid vehicle pull, before checking and adjusting the front wheel alignment, check that the steering is in the midpoint position.
Remove the card from the reader.
Lock the steering wheel with an anti-theft device: this sets the steering to the midpoint position.
In this position, install the measuring equipment and proceed with the test.
When adjusting the toe-in, ensure that the X dimensions of the tie rod ends are the same.
