Camber
It is important to compare the camber angles of the right and left wheels. The presence of a difference between the two sides of more than one degree leads to the removal of the car from the trajectory, which must be corrected by the steering wheel, and this leads to premature tire wear.
The camber angle is usually small: approximately 1°.
The angle of the longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel
It is important to compare the angles of inclination of the axes of rotation of the right and left wheels. The presence of a difference of more than one degree leads to the removal of the car from the trajectory, which must be corrected by the steering wheel, and this leads to premature tire wear.
This is manifested in the withdrawal of the car at a constant speed to the side where the angle has a smaller value.
Steering Height
This parameter affects the change in wheel toe during the suspension travel.
A change in toe-in between the right and left wheels causes (without steering wheel rotation):
- vehicle pull 8 to one side when accelerating;
- pulling the car to the other side when braking;
- change in directional stability on uneven roads.
Wheel alignment
Toe adjustment has little to no effect on how the car behaves on the road.
It should be noted:
- that excessive back-toeing causes symmetrical wear on the inner tread portions of the tires of both wheels;
- that excessive toe-in causes symmetrical wear on the outer sides of the tire treads of both wheels.
