Order of operations
Due to the design features of the front suspension, changing one of the corners (longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel, camber, transverse inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel, convergence and their changes) has a greater or lesser effect on the values of other angles (caster angle of the wheel axis has the greatest influence).
Therefore, the following order must be strictly observed:
- install the measuring equipment on the vehicle, following the manufacturer's instructions;
- set steering to midpoint (see previous paragraph) and lock the steering wheel;
- raise the car by moving the lift levers under the body;
- eliminate the beating of the wheels;
- install the car on the turning circles of the stand;
- block the brake pedal in the depressed state with a special device;
- press the front of the car several times to stabilize the wheel alignment;
- check if the X dimensions of the tie rod ends are the same.
Determine the values of a on the measuring scales.
The x dimensions are the same: the a dimensions must be the same.
The x dimensions are not the same: measure the a dimensions on the right and left sides, subtract one dimension from the other, and change the position of each tie rod end by half the result.
Example
Right side size: 16.
Left side size: 10.
16-10=6:6/2=3.
Adjust the tie rods so that the dimensions a on each side are equal: A=13.
In this position, set the turntables to zero.
Check in the following order:
- angle of longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel;
- the angle of the transverse inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel;
- camber angle;
- wheel alignment angle.
