Removal
Tailgate - all models except Scenic
1. Open the trunk lid, then disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the upper trim panel from the left rear pillar to access the tailgate wiring connector.

3. Disconnect the wiring connector, then remove the sealing ring and remove the wiring harness from the body (refer to the accompanying illustration).

4a. Use a screwdriver to pry up the trim at the back of the headliner.

4b. Loosen the door hinge mounting nuts, (refer to the illustrations)
5. Have an assistant support the door, then carefully lift the mounting brackets and separate the supports.
6. Loosen the nuts securing the tailgate hinges to the body and remove the door from the vehicle.
Tailgate - Scenic models
1. Open the trunk lid, then disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. Remove the four bolts securing the tailgate trim panel. Release the retaining clips and remove the trim panels.
3. Disconnect all electrical wiring connectors, then release the wiring harness from the mounting brackets.
4. Use a screwdriver to pry the sealing ring of the wiring harness from the side of the door. Disconnect the wiring connector from the additional brake light, then remove the wiring harness from the trunk lid.
5. Disconnect the rear washer hose and remove it from the door.
6. To access the tailgate hinge mounting nuts, remove the plugs on each side by turning them a quarter turn counterclockwise.
7. Have an assistant support the tailgate, then carefully lift the retaining clips and separate the supports.
8. Loosen the nuts securing the tailgate hinges to the body and remove the tailgate from the vehicle.
Support

1. Have an assistant support the tailgate, then carefully lift the mounting brackets and separate the support from the ball joints (refer to the accompanying illustration).
Installation
Tailgate - All Models
1. Perform installation in reverse order. Finally, make sure that the tailgate is correctly positioned in relation to the surrounding body elements (there should be a gap of 4.5±1 mm (except Scenic) or 5.4±1 mm (Scenic).
Support
1. Perform installation in reverse order.
