Attention:
When working in the engine compartment, to avoid injury, it is necessary to take precautions, since the electric fan of the engine cooling system may turn on unexpectedly.
To avoid getting severe burns when the engine is hot, you must follow these rules:
- do not open the expansion tank cap,
- do not drain the fluid from the engine cooling system,
- do not open the lids to remove air.
Note:
There are two ways to check the engine cooling system:
- method using the device (Mot. 1700),
- method using a device (Ms. 554-07).

| Expansion tank cap | Steam valve opening pressure |
| With a brown circle | 1.2 bar |
| With yellow marking | 1.4 bar |
| With white markings | 1.6 bar |
| With grey markings | 1.8 bar |
Checking the cooling system with a device (Mot. 1700)
Caution: If coolant leaks from the expansion tank cap, be sure to replace the expansion tank cap.
Checking the safety valve in the expansion tank cap

Use the installation for filling and diagnosing the engine cooling system (Mot. 1700), having previously read the instructions for using this installation.
Checking the tightness of the cooling system
Use the device for diagnosing and filling the engine cooling system (Mot. 1700).
Checking the cooling system with a device (Ms. 554-07)
Checking the safety valve in the expansion tank cap

1. Attach to the testing device (Ms. 554-07) (1) adapter (Ms. 554-06) (2).
2. Screw the expansion tank cap onto the adapter (Ms. 554-06).
Note: The pressure should not drop. If it does, locate the leak.
3. Rock the device (Ms. 554-07), the pressure must be established at the level of the calibration value of the safety valve in the expansion tank cap with a control tolerance of ±0.1 bar.
Checking the tightness of the cooling system
1. Replace the expansion tank cap with an adapter (Ms. 554-01) (3).
2. Attach to the adapter (Ms. 554-01) device (Ms. 554-07).
3. Create pressure in the engine cooling system using a device.
4. Stop pumping when the pressure becomes 0.1 bar below the operating pressure of the safety valve in the expansion tank cap.
Note: The pressure should not drop. If this happens, locate the leak.
5. Gradually unscrew the fitting of the device (Ms. 554-07), release the pressure in the system, then remove the adapter (Ms. 554-01) and install the expansion tank cap.
