Attention:
When working in the engine compartment, precautions must be taken to avoid injury, as the engine cooling fan may start unexpectedly.
To avoid severe burns when the engine is hot, the following rules must be observed:
- do not open the cap of the expansion tank,
- do not drain fluid from the engine cooling system,
- do not open the vent caps.
Note:
There are two ways to check the engine cooling system:
- method using the device (Mot. 1700),
- method using the device (Ms. 554-07).
Expansion tank cap | Steam valve opening pressure |
with brown circle | 1.2 bar |
With yellow marking | 1.4 bar |
With white label | 1.6 bar |
With gray marking | 1.8 bar |
Checking the cooling system with a tool (Mot. 1700)
Caution: If coolant is leaking through the expansion tank cap, be sure to replace the expansion tank cap.
Checking the safety valve in the cap of the expansion tank
Use the installation for refueling and diagnosing the engine cooling system (Mot. 1700), after reading the instructions for using this installation.
Checking the tightness of the cooling system
Use the tool to diagnose and fill the engine cooling system (Mot. 1700).
Checking the cooling system with a tool (Ms. 554-07)
Checking the safety valve in the cap of the expansion tank
1. Connect to test fixture (Ms. 554-07) (1) adapter (Ms. 554-06) (2).
2. Screw the expansion tank cap onto the adapter (Ms. 554-06).
Note: The pressure must not drop. If this occurs, locate the leak.
3. Shake the device (Ms. 554-07), the pressure must be set at the level of the calibration value of the safety valve in the cap of the expansion tank with a control tolerance of±0.1 bar.
Checking the tightness of the cooling system
1. Replace expansion tank cap with adapter (Ms. 554-01) (3).
2. Attach to adapter (Ms. 554-01) device (Ms. 554-07).
3. Pressurize the engine cooling system using a tool.
4. Stop pumping when the pressure is 0.1 bar below the opening pressure of the safety valve in the cap of the expansion tank.
Note: The pressure must not drop. If this occurs, locate the leak.
5. Gradually unscrewing the fixture fitting (Ms. 554-07), depressurize the system, then remove the adapter (Ms. 554-01) and install the expansion tank cap.
