Removing the steering gear boot
1. Place the vehicle on a two post lift.
2. Remove the front wheel from the vehicle.
3. Remove the tie rod end (see above).
4. Fully unscrew the wheel alignment locknut.
Note: Before removing the steering gear boot, it is necessary to blow it with compressed air to prevent any contaminants from getting inside.
5. Cut off the big collar (2) anther.
6. Remove the small collar (2) and remove the boot from the steering gear.
Steering gear boot installation
Note: Be sure to replace the boot and its clamps with new ones after each removal.
1. Clean the contact surfaces between the steering gear with a cleaning agent.
2. Apply silicone grease to the contact surfaces of the boot on the side of the ball joint to prevent the boot from wrapping.
Note: Make sure air is bled from under the steering gear boots.
3. Install boot on steering gear.
4. Fix the boot with new clamps.
5. Install the tie rod end (see above).
6. Check wheel alignment (see chapter "Suspension").
6. Tighten the front wheel toe adjustment locknut.
7. Install the front wheel on the car.
8. If necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
