Removal the parking brake cables



1. Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

2. Remove the center console.

3. Remove the rear wheels from the vehicle.

4. Remove the rear brake drums.

5. Using pliers and a screwdriver, remove the parking brake cables from the parking brake operating levers on the brake mechanisms.

6. Disconnect the parking brake cable housing from the brake mechanism support plate.

7. Unhook the cables from the housings.

8. Use pliers to unhook the cable casings from the holders on the body.

9. Remove the parking brake cables from the guides.

10. Remove the parking brake cables from the vehicle.

Installing the parking brake cables



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Make sure that the cable (1) is correctly positioned on the parking brake operating lever.

Adjust the parking brake.

Note: An incorrectly adjusted parking brake will cause the automatic brake pad clearance compensation system to not operate properly, resulting in premature wear of the brake pads.




1. Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

2. Apply the parking brake five times to return the drive cable to its normal state.

3. Release the parking brake lever.

4. Make sure that the rear wheels of the vehicle rotate freely. If this is not the case, check the following components and, if necessary, repair:
  • parking brake cables;
  • working brake cylinders;
  • automatic brake shoe clearance compensation device;
  • brake mechanism.

5. Remove the rear wheels.

6. Remove the center console.

7. Loosen the nut (1) to release the drive cables.

8. Place the parking brake lever in the two-click position of the selector.

9. Tighten the adjusting nut until the brake drum can no longer be turned by hand.

10. Tighten and release the parking brake lever several times.

11. Release the parking brake lever.

12. Make sure that the brake drums rotate freely. If not, gradually loosen the adjusting nut until the brake drums begin to rotate freely.

13. Install the center console.

14. Install the rear wheels on the vehicle.
