Attention:
- Only experienced personnel who have undergone special training are allowed to work on airbag and seat belt pretensioner systems.
- The airbags are equipped with a pyrotechnic gas generator with an igniter and an inflatable chamber, which must not be separated from each other under any circumstances.
- The seat belt pretensioners are equipped with a pyrotechnic gas generator and igniter, which must not be separated under any circumstances.
- To avoid triggering, do not place pyrotechnic elements (airbags and seat belt pretensioners) near sources of high temperature or open flames.
- To avoid triggering when working with a pyrotechnic element, or when working in close proximity to it (near airbags and seat belt pretensioners) block the airbag control unit using the "Diagnostic device". This will block all ignition circuits and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel will light up continuously (with the ignition on).
- When performing work under a vehicle (on the body, on the supporting base of the body, etc.) and when removing and installing the seat upholstery, be sure to block the airbag ECU using the "Diagnostic Tool" and disconnect the battery.
Caution: To prevent the setting from being reset or the pyrotechnic elements from being accidentally triggered (airbags for seat belt pretensioners) check the airbag control unit using the "Diagnostic Tool".
Pyrotechnic systems (seat belt pretensioners and airbags) it is necessary to check with the "Diagnostic device":
- after a traffic accident,
- after the theft or attempted theft of a car,
- before reselling the car.
Triggering of security systems
Attention:
To ensure that nothing interferes with the deployment of the airbags:
- do not put covers on the front seats,
- do not place any objects in the airbag deployment area.
Original publication on the website (renaultbook)
After a collision is detected, the airbag ECU is completely disabled and the "airbag malfunction" warning light on the instrument panel lights up. The airbag ECU and side impact sensors are subject to mandatory protection.
Attention:
- To avoid accidents, do not reuse pyrotechnic elements.
- It is essential to render seat belt pretensioners or airbags harmless before disposing of the vehicle or a single component.
Service life of pyrotechnic devices
Recommendations for replacing pyrotechnic devices (airbags and seat belt pretensioners) 10 years after the vehicle registration is now cancelled. Thus, pyrotechnic devices (airbags and seat belt pretensioners) do not require any maintenance.
