Heating and ventilation (Renault Espace III)

The heating system consists of two radiators located on both sides of the instrument panel. The driver can regulate the temperature of the air supplied to the passenger compartment from the driver's and front passenger's side, and the front passenger can regulate the temperature of the air only from his side.

Air supply nozzles

Air is drawn in from the sides of the outside rear-view mirrors and the inside panels of the front door pillars. Air is supplied to the vehicle interior as follows:

• through fixed air vents to the windshield, side windows, front door windows and footwells located both in the front and rear of the passenger compartment;
• through controlled side and central ventilation grilles. These ventilation grilles can change the amount of air passing through them depending on the position of the adjustment wheel.

Air flow is directed into the cabin through two filters of the ventilation system and two centrally located fans. Before reaching the air vents (glass blower nozzles and side ventilation nozzles), the air passes through the radiators of the heaters and is heated. Only cold air passes through the central ventilation nozzles.

Governing bodies

Pulse type controls (the system operating mode is switched on by briefly pressing the corresponding key), except for the temperature controller (rotary type) and air supply regulator. In the basic version (without air conditioning) air is supplied to the ventilation nozzles constantly. To stop outside air from entering the cabin, all nozzles must be closed.

Defrost/Defogging Key (1)

The first time you press the button, the normal system of protection against fogging and defrosting of the windows is activated. In this case, all the air flow is directed to the windshield, side windows and front door windows. When you press the button, the left indicator lamp lights up

Key (2) "summer"

The air flow is directed only to the central and side ventilation nozzles. When the key is pressed, the control lamp lights up

Key (3) "winter/mid-season with defogging"

The air flow is distributed between the glass heating nozzles (to prevent fogging and freezing) and openings for heating the feet of the driver, front and rear passengers. When the button is pressed, the control lamp lights up.

Key (4) "winter/mid-season"

The main air flow is directed to the feet of the driver, front and rear passengers; a small amount of air is directed to the window heating nozzles. When the key is pressed, the control lamp lights up.

Temperature control knob (5)

The control knob is turned to the left; the heater radiator is isolated from the air flow - the position of the lowest temperature.

The control knob is turned to the right - the air flow passes completely through the heater radiator - the position of the highest temperature. Between these two extreme positions, the mixing of warm and cold air is determined by the position of the control knob

The knob regulates the temperature on the driver's and front passenger's side if the indicator lamp (6) is lit, or only on the driver's side if the passenger's control panel is activated. To deactivate the passenger's control panel, press one of the air distribution buttons 2-3-4 for 2 seconds. In addition, the passenger's control panel is deactivated automatically when the demisting/defrosting mode (1) is selected.

Handle (7) for adjusting the amount of air supplied to the passenger compartment

To increase the amount of air supplied to the cabin, move the handle to the right.

When the handle is set to the extreme left position, there is no air supply to the passenger compartment
