The fuel filter must be changed every 30,000 km and at least once a year it must be emptied of accumulated condensate.
As experience is gained, time periods may be reduced. The Bosch filter with an installed water drain is similar in design to an oil filter, i.e. a puller is used to remove the filter cover. The screw threads of the filter are lubricated with sealant at the factory, however, a gasket must be installed between the filter element and the filter cover. A filter is also used, which has a built-in fuel priming pump and a device for heating diesel fuel.
To drain the condensate, remove the plug on the bottom surface of the filter element and the vent plug. Then drain about 100 cm3 fuel-water mixture. Then reinstall the plug and tighten the vent plug.
When installing a new Bosch filter, place the seal over the screw thread and tighten the filter until the rubber seal is pressed. From this position, turn the filter an additional quarter turn by hand (without tool).
If a fuel priming pump is not built into the fuel filter, use a starter to bleed the system. To do this, turn on the starter for about 10 seconds, then wait 5 seconds and turn it on again. Continue in the same sequence until the engine starts.
If the filter has a priming pump, open the high pressure fuel line connection and use the priming pump handle to pump it by hand until fuel comes out free of air bubbles. Tighten the union nut again.
