Diesel engine fuel system — general description (Renault Espace I)

The main condition for carrying out all work in the diesel injection system is cleanliness. Clean all nuts thoroughly before removing.

If damaged, the fuel pump cannot be repaired, i.e. you can install a used or a new pump.

Espace vehicles are equipped with a Bosch VE fuel pump (the number changes depending on the year of the model). This is a single-piston pump with a mechanical centrifugal governor, automatic cold idle acceleration and a solenoid-actuated shut-off valve switch. The system does not use a fuel pump. The fuel pump pumps fuel directly from the tank.

Engine power is increased by installing a turbocharger. The entire system works with a charge air cooler.

To adjust the fuel pump and also to remove and install it, special tools are required, so it is not recommended to do this work yourself. If you decide to do it, follow the instructions below.

Diesel engines operate with either direct injection or pre-chamber injection. In the case of Renault engines, fuel is injected into a pre-chamber or swirl chamber in the cylinder head, which in turn connects to the combustion chamber. The combustion process begins in the pre-chamber; due to the increasing pressure, fuel particles break through into the combustion chamber of the cylinder, where they burn completely.
