4-cylinder engine

1. The camshaft, drive belt, and drive belt tensioners, etc. can be changed with the engine installed in the vehicle. Perform the following work:

2. Disconnect the battery and drain the coolant.

3. Disconnect the accelerator pedal drive cable from the carburetor and from the cylinder head cover mount or from the throttle body.

4. Remove the cooling fan without hoses.

5. Remove the radiator, radiator grille, warm air duct, shield under the engine, drive belts of the units, drive belt cover and unscrew the spark plugs.

6. Turn the crankshaft so that the piston of the first cylinder is set to TDC, and from this position turn the crankshaft a quarter turn to the right. Put on the replaceable socket head (wrench) on the crankshaft bolt to turn the engine. You can also jack up the front wheel, engage the gear and turn the wheel until the crankshaft is in the described position.

7. Remove the toothed drive belt as described in next chapter.

8. Lock the camshaft pulley in the manner described, unscrew the bolt and remove the pulley. The pulley is quite fragile, so be careful when locking it.

9. Remove the woodruff key from the shaft.

10. Unscrew the cylinder head mounting bolts and remove the cover.

11. Remove the rocker arm shaft.

12. Remove the ignition distributor.

13. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head (see illustration).

19.13 Removing the camshaft

14. Install the camshaft in the reverse order.

(Information is located on the website: www.Renaultbook.ru)

15. Lubricate the bearings and cams thoroughly. Be careful not to let oil get into the cylinder head bolt holes.

16. Install the cylinder head as described in the relevant chapter.

17. Replacing the camshaft oil seal is described in chapter 21.

18. Finally, install the drive belt and tensioners as described in next chapter.

19. Adjust the drive belt tension.

V6 Engine

20. The camshafts can be replaced with the engine installed on the vehicle. The work is the same as when removing the cylinder head, until the shafts are removed from the heads. Both camshafts are different.

21. The shaft with the ignition distributor pinion is on the right cylinder bank. Not all V6 engines have the same camshafts. If a new shaft is ordered, it must be suitable for the "Z7W" Espace engine.
