Oil filter (Renault Espace I)

1. The oil filter is easiest to get to from the underside of the car, with the front of the car securely supported on axle stands. Use a belt wrench to remove the filter. Otherwise, use sandpaper. Press the rough surface of the sandpaper against the filter walls and turn the filter out with both hands. Make sure that the filter sealing ring is also removed, as it may remain in the groove of the cylinder block. Disconnect the battery before removing the filter.

2. Lubricate the sealing ring of the new filter and install the filter on the cylinder block. From this position, turn the filter by hand a quarter of a turn.

3. Unscrew the filter again and screw it in again until the sealing ring fits tightly against the cylinder block. From this position, screw the filter in another three-quarters of the way.

4. If necessary, add oil to the engine.

5. Filter connection is not the same for all engines.
