Pistons and cylinder liners can be replaced with the engine installed on the vehicle. However, since damage to a piston can also damage other parts, it is better to remove the engine. If the same parts, liners, pistons and connecting rods are to be installed, mark them with the cylinder number.

All pistons are equipped with two compression rings and one oil scraper ring. The outer surface of the upper compression ring is chromed, and the cross-section of the lower compression ring has the shape of a trapezoid. The piston bottoms of the gasoline engine have an elevation in the middle, as shown by the segment "X" (see illustration). If the piston needs to be replaced, the height "X" of the new piston must match the height "X" of the old piston.
