Pre-chambers (diesel engine) — general description (Renault Espace I)

Pre-chambers are designed specifically for diesel engines and must protrude a certain amount from the top of the cylinder head.

The pre-chambers are pressed into the cylinder head. After installation, check the installation dimensions of the pre-chambers as shown in Illustration 6.8 for the valves. The measurements are taken in relation to the upper head of the pre-chamber (from the cylinder head side). The normal installation size is from 0.01 to 0.04 mm. If the pre-chambers have to be changed, measure the diameter of the installed chambers to select a pre-chamber of the appropriate size. The same applies to the fireproof washers, which are available in two sizes.
