Front anti-roll bar (Renault Espace I)

The method of fastening the front anti-roll bar on the latest models is shown in Figure 21.1. Basically, only the shape of the bar has changed, with the possible exception of the clamps. On early models, the clamp bolts were screwed into nuts directly in the floor of the car. On the latest Espace models, clamps with separate washers and studs are used. The tightening torque has also changed.



The front wheels must be removed to gain access to the stabilizer bar mounts. When disconnecting the stabilizer bar link from the shock absorber hinge bolt, do not knock the bolt out completely. Tap the bolt only to push it back and remove the link.

Loosen the mounting brackets on the left and right and remove. Install the bushings only as directed. If the stabilizer or tie rod or both need to be replaced, remove the retaining ring on the end of the stabilizer. On early models, the retaining ring is on the inside of the spacer sleeve.

On later models there is a washer in front of the snap ring that must be cut to remove the snap ring.



Install in reverse order. Lubricate the bushings and install in their original position. The bushings are separated and can be installed either from the top or bottom, depending on the fastening.

The mounting brackets and shock absorber pivot bolts are finally tightened when the vehicle is completely lowered to the ground. Tighten the pivot bolt nuts to 80 Nm. The mounting bracket nuts are tightened to 15 Nm (models "J11...") or 20 Nm (models "J63...").
