  • Front Suspension Shock Absorbers and Springs — Description
0
Based on the suspension changes on early Espace models and the new suspension fitted to the second generation models, there are important differences when removing the shock absorber or replacing the spring. The springs are colour coded and when replacing them, use new ones with the same markings. When buying a new spring or strut, check the chassis number.

On models with "L1" manufactured before December 1987, straight springs or springs with a reduced diameter lower coil are installed (see illustration). The modified front suspension of these models is equipped with telescopic "B" struts, but this increases the tightening torque of the lock nut on the lower surface, which is very important when installing a shock absorber of this type.

A = straight spring
B = spring with reduced last turn

The second generation cars have a different telescopic strut mount at the top, which is secured with three nuts to the side of the body.
