When removing and installing front suspension springs on first generation vehicles, follow the shock absorber removal instructions for those models. After removal, slowly loosen the spring removers until they are completely released. Please note that during the production process, different springs were installed on cars and when replacing, it is necessary to install only with an identical color mark. In addition, remember that springs come with equal coils or with a lower coil of reduced diameter. When installing the springs, make sure that their ends fit exactly into the upper and lower cups.
The telescoping column of the second generation car is disassembled after removal. This will require pullers (see illustration 19.1 from chapter 19). After the spring is compressed, remove the nut from the end of the piston rod. Install a hex wrench on the end of the piston rod to block it from turning.
When installing, correctly insert the spring into both cups, i.e. it should not protrude beyond their edges. Tighten the piston rod nut to 20 Nm (use a hex wrench to lock).
