Removing
1. Block the rear wheels, engage the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove both front wheels.
2. Remove the engine bottom shield (where available) and downpipe muffler/converter (contact the head Power and exhaust systems).
3. On models equipped with a manual transmission, disconnect the gear selection rod from the transmission as described in Chapter Transmission.
4. On models where the anti-roll bar is attached directly to the lower arms (all models except Scenic), loosen and remove the nuts and bolts securing the stabilizer mounting clips (refer to accompanying illustration). Unhook both clips and remove them from the levers.
5. On models where the stabilizer is attached to the lower arms by means of rods (Scenic), unscrew the mounting nuts and bolts and remove the stabilizer mounting clips from the subframe (refer to accompanying illustration).
6. Remove the anti-roll bar from under the car and remove the rubber bushings.
7. Carefully inspect the stabilizer components for signs of wear and damage, paying particular attention to the mounting bushings. Replace worn components as needed.
Installation
1. Install the mounting sleeves on the stabilizer, then bring it into working position. Position the bushings with their slots facing the subframe, then install the mounting clips and lightly tighten the bolts.
2. On all models except the Scenic, lubricate the stabilizer bar end mounting bushings with multipurpose grease (Renault recommends using Molykote 33). Install the bushings on the ends of the stabilizer, then place the mounting clips in position. Install the clamp bolts and nuts and lightly tighten them.
3. On Scenic models, place shims between stabilizer bar and lower arms. Insert the tie rods, then install the top spacers and nuts and tighten them securely.
4. On models with manual transmission, connect the gear selection rod as described in Chapter Transmission.
5. Attach muffler/converter downpipe (Chapter Power and exhaust systems), then install the lower engine shield (where available).
6. Install the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to Specifications effort.
7. Rock the vehicle to adjust the position of the stabilizer components, then tighten the stabilizer mounting parts as shown in Specifications effort.
