Driving with a broken clutch cable (Renault 19)

You can at least get to the service station without clutch control.

Acceleration: turn off the engine, engage 1st gear and start the starter. Renault 19 will start and drive simultaneously with the engine start. Those who do not want to change gears during the rest of the trip can start in this way downhill with 2nd gear engaged.

Shifting to a higher gear: In 1st gear, you start off using the starter. In 1st gear, increase the revs slightly above idle speed (about 1000 rpm). Release the accelerator slightly and engage neutral. Release the accelerator completely and smoothly engage 2nd gear. At the appropriate engine and gearbox speed, 2nd gear will engage easily. If you have waited too long, add a little "gas" so that you can engage the gear without grinding in the gearbox. If this does not work, stop and try again from the beginning. Engage the following gears in the same way. This is easiest to do at very low speeds: engage 2nd gear at no more than 20 km / h, 3rd gear at 30 km / h, 4th at 40 km / h and 5th at 50 km / h.

Disabling transmission: release the accelerator pedal and shift into neutral. With the vehicle moving, you may need to press the pedal slightly again if the transmission is stuck.

The engine speed must be increased to engage the next lower gear. Release the gas pedal slightly, disengage the gear, add a little "gas" and simultaneously engage the next lower gear. At the correct engine speed, the gear engages almost effortlessly. Shifting from higher to lower gear also occurs best at low speeds.
