1. For ease of subsequent installation, measure the length of the free threaded part of the lower end of the cable before removing it (at the gearbox).
2. Move the cable forward and remove its end from the slot in the clutch release fork.
3. Remove the cable sheath damper from the bracket on the gearbox housing.
4. In the passenger compartment, under the instrument panel, disconnect the cable end from the clutch pedal sector.
5. Remove the cable sheath from the stop in the front shield and remove the cable, pulling it out of the shield into the engine compartment.
6. Install the clutch release cable in the reverse order of removal.
7. After installing the new cable, perform the initial installation of the cable. Measure the dimensions L and L1, respectively, between the end of the damper and the clutch release fork, and between the end of the damper and the cable tip. Dimension L should be (86±5) mm, dimension L1 - (60±5) mm. If the dimensions do not correspond to the specified ranges of values, set them by turning the adjusting nut of the cable tip with the lock nut loosened.
Note. As the clutch slave disk linings wear during operation, the initial setting of the clutch release cable also changes. In this case, the clutch pedal moves up, its full stroke increases, and the clutch engages with a delay at the very end of the pedal stroke. In this case, check and restore the initial setting of the cable with the adjusting nut on its threaded end.
8. Press the clutch pedal three times to the stop and re-measure the distances L and L1. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
9. Make sure that the stroke of the free end of the clutch release fork is within 28-33 mm for a 1.4L engine clutch and 30-35 mm for a 1.6L engine.
