Troubleshooting Clutch Problems (Renault 19)

1. The clutch clearance adjustment mechanism is faulty.
2. The clutch friction linings have worn out.
3. Too little clamping pressure.
4. Oiling of friction linings.
5. Clutch overheating.

Replace if necessary and install a new clutch cable.
Replace the slave disk.

Replace the clutch pressure plate.

Replace the driven disk and faulty gearbox or crankshaft gaskets.
Replace faulty parts.

2. The clutch cable broke.
3. The driven disk is fixed on the gearbox shaft.
4. Runout of the driven disk.
5. Warping or damage to the friction surfaces of the driven disk.
6. After a long period of standing, the friction linings rusted to the flywheel.

Replace.
Clean the fine-spline joint thoroughly with a wire brush. Then lubricate with Moly paste or spray.
Replace the slave disk.
Replace the slave disk.

Start off as described in the section "Driving with a broken clutch cable". Hold the clutch pedal down for a long time, sharply press and release the gas pedal. If this does not help, remove it.

Replace engine or gearbox mounts.
Replace faulty parts.

Replace the slave disk.

Replace the pressure plate or driven disk.

Replace the slave disk.

Replace the release bearing.
Replace the clutch pressure plate.
