The maintenance plan for various Renault 19 modifications includes lubrication of vehicle components. It should be remembered that any moving parts in a vehicle last longer if they are periodically lubricated. In this case, the following rule must be observed: for hinges and hard-to-reach components that lubricant does not penetrate, the most effective means are oil or lubricating spray. Rubbing surfaces must be treated with thicker types of lubricant, as they provide a longer-lasting effect.
The ATF level in the power steering reservoir should always be between the upper and lower control marks. The transparent reservoir allows you to easily see the fluid level in it, but make sure that the car is in a horizontal position.
Doors and trunk lid
Door hinges do not require any additional maintenance. However, lubrication will not harm them.
- For door and trunk lid latches, it is best to use silicone paste or lubricating spray.
- The door stops, which prevent the doors from opening too wide, are lubricated with a universal lubricant or silicone paste.
- It is necessary to treat the hinge joints between the transfer rods and the switching segment of the door retainer with a lubricating spray. To do this, you must first remove the door trim.
- You can apply a small amount of oil to the tailgate hinges located at the rear edge of the roof. Be careful not to damage the roof lining.
Door keyholes
- Treat the door keyholes at the beginning of the cold season with a small amount of rust-dissolving sealant spray. It will protect against moisture and rust, as well as from freezing in the winter.
- Gun oil is also suitable for lubricating keyholes. Use an old syringe to inject about 0.5 cm³.
Engine hood
1. Apply a small amount of grease to the hood release cable where it exits its housing. Then pull the hood release lever a few times to distribute the grease over the surface.
2. Apply a small amount of thick grease to the engine hood lock clamp, hood latch and hood support hinges.
3. Apply a small amount of oil or lubricating spray to the engine hood hinge pins.
After winter, especially if the roads are salted, it is necessary to lubricate the engine hood hinges. For this, we recommend spray lubricant. When sprayed, it remains liquid, and after hitting the lubricated surface, it forms an oil film that protects the most inaccessible places.
To increase the service life of the hood opening drive, it is necessary to lubricate all its moving parts.
The arrows point to the clutch cable seal, through which you can lubricate the cable housing by pressing the clutch pedal.
There are several areas in the door hinges that need to be lubricated when servicing the vehicle. This is especially true for the rubbing surfaces (shown by small arrows) door supports.
Folding roof top
1. Open the convertible top
2. Carefully clean off the thickened lubricant from the convertible top lifting mechanism with gasoline.
3. Treat all rubbing surfaces and the convertible top lifting mechanism with a universal lubricant or silicone paste.
Clutch drive
1. In the engine compartment, move the clutch release lever on the gearbox until the end of the clutch cable is visible.
2. Apply some lubricant to it.
3. Also lubricate the end of the clutch cable sheath and press the clutch pedal several times.
Handbrake drive
To lubricate the handbrake drive, it is best to use a waterproof universal grease, such as Molykote BR 2 Plus, which is also used to lubricate the rear wheel bearings.
1. Apply Ausgleichsbugel lubricant.
2. Apply grease to all exposed areas of the handbrake cables to protect against corrosion.
Throttle actuator
1. Ask an assistant to press the gas pedal with the engine off.
2. Clean all moving drive parts from dirt and lubricate them with oil. It is necessary to press the gas pedal several more times to evenly distribute the lubricant over the entire area of the rubbing surfaces.
3. Do not lubricate the shafts and bearings of the throttle lever in the injection system and in the high-pressure fuel pump of the diesel engine, since the lubricant, mixed with dirt, will lead to their failure.
Automatic transmission control lever
1. Raise the front of the car with a jack, secure and disassemble the automatic transmission control lever safety cover.
2. Apply spray lubricant to the automatic transmission control lever joints.
