MOT No. 32
The maintenance plan for various modifications of Renault 19 provides for the lubrication of vehicle components. It should be remembered that any moving parts in the car last longer if they are periodically lubricated. In this case, the following rule must be observed: for hinges and hard-to-reach assemblies into which grease does not penetrate, the most effective remedy is oil or a lubricant spray. Rubbing surfaces must be treated with thicker types of lubricant, as they provide a longer lasting effect.
The ATF level in the steering servo reservoir must always be between the upper and lower control marks. The transparent reservoir makes it easy to see the liquid level in it, but make sure that the machine is in a horizontal position.
Doors and trunk lid
Door hinges do not require additional maintenance. However, lube won't hurt them.
- It is best to use silicone paste or lubricating spray for the latch of door locks and trunk lid.
- The door stops, which prevent the doors from opening too wide, are lubricated with universal grease or silicone paste.
- The swivel joints between the transmission rods and the switching segment of the door latch must be sprayed with lubricant. To do this, you first need to remove the door trim.
- You can apply a small amount of oil to the tailgate hinges located at the trailing edge of the roof. Be careful not to damage the roof lining.
Door keyholes
- Treat door keyholes at the beginning of the cold season with a small amount of rust-dissolving insulating spray. It will protect against moisture and rust, as well as from freezing in winter.
- Gun oil is also suitable for lubricating keyholes. Inject about 0.5 cm with an old syringe3.
Engine hood
1. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the engine hood latch cable where it comes out of its sheath. Then pull the hood release lever a few times to spread the lubricant over the surface.
2. Apply a small amount of grease to the engine hood latch, hood latch, and hood support hinges.
3. Treat with a small amount of oil or lubricating spray the axles of the hinges of the engine hood.
After winter, especially if the roads are covered with salt, it is necessary to lubricate the hinges of the engine hood. We recommend splash lubrication for this. At the time of spraying, it remains liquid, and after it hits the lubricated surface, it forms an oil film that protects the most inaccessible places.
To prolong the life of the hood release drive, it is necessary to lubricate all its moving parts.
The arrows point to the clutch cable seal through which you can lubricate the cable sheath by depressing the clutch pedal.
There are several places in the door hinges that need to be lubricated when servicing the vehicle. This is especially true for friction surfaces (shown by small arrows) door supports.
Roof top
1. Open the convertible top
2. Carefully clean thickened grease from the convertible top mechanism with gasoline.
3. Treat all friction surfaces and the convertible top lift mechanism with multipurpose grease or silicone paste.
Clutch drive
1. In the engine compartment, slide the clutch release lever on the transmission until the tip of the clutch cable is exposed.
2. Apply some lubricant to it.
3. Lubricate also the end of the clutch cable sheath and press the clutch pedal several times.
Hand brake drive
For lubricating the hand brake actuator, it is best to use a waterproof multipurpose grease such as Molykote BR 2 Plus, which is also used to lubricate the rear wheel bearings.
1. Apply Ausgleichsbugel.
2. Apply grease to all exposed areas of the handbrake cables to protect against corrosion.
Throttle actuator
1. Ask an assistant to press the gas pedal with the engine off.
2. Clean all moving parts of the drive from dirt and lubricate them with oil. It is necessary to press the gas pedal several more times in order to evenly distribute the lubricant over the entire area of rubbing surfaces.
3. At the same time, do not lubricate the shafts and bearings of the throttle lever in the injection system and in the high-pressure fuel pump of the diesel engine, since the grease, mixed with dirt, will lead to their failure.
Automatic transmission control lever
1. Raise the front of the machine with a jack, fix and disassemble the safety cover of the automatic transmission control lever.
2. Spray the automatic transmission control lever hinges with a spray lubricant.
