Constant control
Exhaust gas residues, oil vapors and silicone from car paint care products are constantly deposited on the glass. During the warm season, it is recommended to add a cleaning additive to the washer water; fill with antifreeze glass cleaner in winter.
1. At the same time, first fill in the additive agent and only then water, so that the liquids are well mixed in the washer reservoir.
2. In extreme cold, the washer nozzles may still freeze.
3. To avoid freezing, it is necessary to increase the concentration of antifreeze additive. The addition of denatured alcohol leads to flocculation and subsequent blockage in windshield washer nozzles.
Note. Recommendation: since the windshield washer reservoir on the Renault 19 is also responsible for supplying water to the rear window, you should turn on the rear window washer several times before a hard frost after adding an antifreeze additive. In this way, you will avoid freezing of the long supply pipe to the rear window.
Removing the windshield washer sprinklers
A clogged sprinkler sometimes cannot be cleared despite the use of thin wire or a needle. Then the atomizer must be replaced or removed and blown with air under pressure. To prevent clogging of the nozzles, it is recommended to buy a standard fuel filter and install it on the washer hose.
1. Front: open the engine hood. At the rear edge of the hood, carefully pry the plug next to the sprayer from the hood socket with a screwdriver.
2. Squeeze the sprayer out of the socket in the hood with your finger.
3. Disconnect the hose and remove the spray gun.
4. To replace the hose system, other plugs must also be removed from the engine hood.
5. Remove the distributor with jet hoses. To facilitate reassembly, if necessary, tie a string to the hose being removed beforehand, with which the new hose can be pulled in.
6. Behind: Gently pry out the trim in the upper cutout of the tailgate.
7. Carefully pull back the tailgate trim and push the windshield washer sprayer out of its socket with your fingers.
8. Turn the atomizer from the outside and remove it together with the hose from the socket.
9. Remove the hose from the sprayer.
10. If, before installation, the sprayer hose fell into the nest, then insert the cord into this hole, tie it to the hose and pull it out of the sprayer nest.
11. When installing the atomizer, pay attention to the correct position of the sealing gasket.
With the plugs on the inside of the engine hood removed, the condition of the sprinkler hoses can be checked (3). If the windshield washer sprinklers are constantly clogged with dirt, then you can install in front of the fluid distributor (2) small fuel filter (from a lawn mower or motorcycle) in the intake hose (1). When pushing the sprinkler out of its seat, make sure that the small plastic clip is not broken off, otherwise the sprayer can no longer be mounted on the hood. In the absence of a new atomizer, you can stick the damaged old one on the closed mount in the bottom of the hood and fix it in the optimal position after fine adjustment.
Windshield washer nozzle adjustment
1. Insert a thin needle into the nozzle of the atomizer and turn the spherical atomizer in the desired direction.
2. How the windscreen and rear window washer should be adjusted is shown in the figure below.
Trouble-shooting
Windshield: separate jets of water from double jets - the distance is measured from the top edge of the windshield and should be about 30 cm. From the side, the outer jets should hit the glass at a distance of 25 cm from the side edge of the glass, and the inner ones at 50 cm.
Rear window: The spray jet should hit the glass at a distance of about 25 cm from the top edge of the glass.
Malfunction | Cause | Debugg |
A. Water does not splash when the switch is turned on. | 1. The windshield washer reservoir is empty. 2. Winter: Windshield washer water frozen. 3. Clogged nozzle. 4. Faulty washer pump. 5. Defective wiper switch. | Fill up. Increase the concentration of antifreeze additive. Remove the atomizer, blow with air or clean with a fine wire. The hose may also need to be purged. With the ignition on and the switch pressed, check for electrical current, replace if necessary. Check switch. |
B. The jet of water hits only from one side. | See A3. | |
C. The water jet is spraying too high or too low. | Atomizers incorrectly adjusted. | Adjust with a fine needle. |
