Steering servo
Malfunction | Her reason | Trouble-shooting |
A. Noises in the steering. | 1. Too low ATF level. 2. V-belt tension too loose. 3. V-belt worn or damaged. | Fill the tank according to the instructions. Locate the leak. Tension the V-belt. Check if the tension roller moves easily, replace if necessary. Install a new belt. Replace. |
B. The servo has failed. | 1. See A. 1 and 2. 2. Clogged hoses. 3. System pressure too low. 4. Air in the system. | Clean hoses or replace. Check system pressure. Remove air and find the reason for its entry into the system. |
C. With an increase in the angle of rotation, the steering becomes heavier. | 1. See B. 3. 2. Defective or clogged steering valve. | Replace pump. |
D. The steering wheel turns on its own constantly in any direction. | 1. Large tire pressure difference. 2. Broken or deformed wheel geometry. 3. Hydraulic lines damaged or insufficient ATF. | Check tire pressure, pay attention to uneven tire wear. Check steering and suspension, adjust steering and replace defective parts. Replace pipelines. |
E.The steering wheel does not return to a straight position or does not return at all. | 1. Steering shaft or suspension joints are hard to move. 2. Fluid outlet hose or wire is narrowed or broken. 3. The rack is hard to move, possibly due to damage to the rack piston or O-rings. | Replace worn or damaged parts. Install new parts. Check, replace if necessary. |
F. Servo drive leak. | 1. Leakage of ATF through hose or pipe connections. 2. Defective rack seals. | Tighten the joints or install new O-rings. Remove the steering, disassemble it and install new seals. |
Note. Recommendation: when making noises in the steering gear servo, remember that the operation of the servo pump is accompanied by noises. These noises can be heard when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running, especially when the steering wheel is fully turned. As the RPMs increase, the noise may increase. To diagnose a malfunction, it is necessary to localize the noises of nearby units, due to which the noises can be confused (e.g. V-belt tensioner noise).
