Bumpers made of plastic are repaired by welding with a hot air heater or a large soldering iron.

Since the operation of removing and installing the bumper is not difficult, it is best to remove the bumper being repaired from the car so as not to accidentally damage other parts of the body.

Clean the surfaces to be welded with a weak solvent. Connect the parts of the bumper to be welded and secure them with a clamp on a rigid support.

If the bumper is deformed, soften it with a hair dryer, avoiding melting.

Place the softened bumper on a stand and shape it as desired. Cool the bumper for 10 minutes. Attach a small diameter tip to the hair dryer nozzle to obtain a directed stream of hot air. Heat the welded parts of the bumper with a hair dryer, moving the hair dryer to uniformly melt the welded surfaces.

Prepare a thin welding rod by cutting it from a discarded bumper. With the rod at right angles to the crack, weld beads of plastic on both sides of the crack.

Weld the plastic rod into the crack. Cut the weld seam flush with a cutter. Sand the seam with 150 grit sandpaper without water, then polish with water with 600 grit sandpaper. Apply a coat of special paint for plastic to the bumper.
