Removal



Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.

Remove the air filter housing (K4J).

Remove the intake manifold (K4M).

Disconnect the wiring harness from the downstream oxygen sensor (fig. 2.253).

Unscrew the nuts securing the flange of the exhaust manifold inlet pipe and remove the exhaust manifold brace (fig. 2.254).

Note: Use a marker to mark the position of the exhaust manifold suspension mount brackets on the body.

Loosen the bolt securing the exhaust manifold suspension cushion bracket to the body (fig. 2.255).

Loosen the bolt securing the main muffler suspension cushion bracket to the body (fig. 2.256).

Move the exhaust pipe back.

Remove the oxygen sensor using the tool (Mot. 1495-01).

Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield (fig. 2.257).

Unscrew the nine nuts of the mounting studs and remove the exhaust manifold (fig. 2.258).

Remove the lower heat shield (fig. 2.259).

Installation



The following are subject to mandatory replacement:
  • manifold gaskets;
  • exhaust pipe flange gaskets;
  • exhaust manifold mounting stud nuts.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Tighten the exhaust manifold mounting stud nuts in the order shown in Figure 2.260 to the required torque (23±3 Nm).

Tighten:
  • heat shield mounting bolt (10 Nm);
  • oxygen sensors (45 Nm);
  • bolts for fastening brackets of suspension cushions of exhaust manifold to the body (21 Nm);
  • exhaust manifold brace mounting bolt (8 Nm);
  • exhaust pipe flange fastening nuts (20 Nm).

Connect the wires to the battery terminals, starting with the positive terminal.
