Fig. 2.192. Elastomeric seal (first option): 1 – spring; 2 – V-shaped working edge
Elastomeric camshaft seals are used in two versions, the elastomeric seal in the first version has a spring and a V-shaped working edge (fig. 2.192).
Fig. 2.193. Elastomeric seal (second option): 1 – flat working edge; 2 – safety sleeve
In the second version, the elastomer seal has a flat working edge and a safety sleeve, which also serves to install the seal on the engine (fig. 2.193).
Note: Both seal modifications can be installed on the same engine. Seals are not interchangeable. Always replace the old seal with a seal of the same modification, except when replacing one or both camshafts.
Installation of the first version of the intake camshaft seals
Fig. 2.194. Installation of the first version of the intake camshaft seals: 1 - special device; 2 - old nut
Install the seals using the tool (Mot. 1491) and old nuts (fig. 2.194).
Installing the exhaust camshaft oil seal
Caution! Always hold the seal by the protective sleeve, as seals of this type are easily damaged. Never touch the elastomer seal after pressing in, to prevent oil leakage (fig. 2.195).
Fig. 2.196. Screwing studs into the camshaft: 1 - hairpin
Screw the stud of the tool (Mot. 1632) into the camshaft (fig. 2.196).

Install a protective sleeve with a seal on the camshaft (fig. 2.197).
Fig. 2.198. Installing the cap and flange nut: 1 – cap; 2 – flange nut
Fit the cap and flange nut of the tool (Mot. 1632) (fig. 2.198).
Fig. 2.199. Tightening the flange nut until the cap touches the cylinder head
Tighten the flange nut until the cap touches the cylinder head (fig. 2.199).
Remove the nut, cap, protective sleeve and stud.
Install the timing belt.
Install:
- accessory drive belt;
- new inlet camshaft plugs using tool (Mot. 1487);
