Note: On models with F3R, F7R and F9Q engines, it is theoretically possible to remove the transmission separately from the engine. However, this is a very complex and time-consuming procedure. It is recommended to remove the powertrain assembly (refer to Chapter Engine repair), and then separate the transmission from the engine. On models with E7J and K7M engines, the latter method is the only possible one.
1. Remove the engine/transmission assembly as described in Chapter Engine repair.
2. Place the powertrain on the workbench and separate the transmission as follows:
2a. a) Disconnect the engine and transmission tie bracket/flywheel housing (where is available).
2b. b) Remove the bolts and nuts securing the transmission to the engine, marking the location of all brackets.
c) With the help of an assistant, separate the transmission from the engine, making sure that the unit does not hang on the input shaft.
2c. Upper transmission to engine mounting bolts.
2d. Rear nut securing the transmission to the engine.
