Note. You will need a special tool to fine-tune the shift rod (Renault B.Vi. 1133).
1. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
2. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the protective cover from the base of the transmission.
3. Select 1st gear on the transmission by moving its operating lever and the corresponding position. To lock the transmission lever, install the Renault B.Vi tool. 1133 as shown (refer to accompanying illustration). If no special tool is available, make a suitable replacement using a flat metal rod or block of wood.
4. Use a feeler gauge to check that the gap (Y) between the ring of the inadvertent reverse gear lock on the gear lever and the sloping edge on the right side of the lever housing is 3 mm (refer to accompanying illustration).
5. If adjustment is necessary, unhook the return spring from the shift lever end of the link, then loosen the pinch bolt at the opposite end of the link so the link can move.
6. Move the shift lever so that the ring of the accidental reverse gear lock touches the inclined edge on the casing, then insert a 3 mm thick probe between the ring and the edge. Lock the lever in this position and tighten the pinch bolt to the Specifications effort.
7. Remove the blocking tool, then install the return spring and recheck the clearance as described in paragraph 4.
8. Check that the shift lever moves easily to each position, then install the protective cover and lower the vehicle onto the wheels.
