Assembly sequence — engine overhaul (Renault Megane 1)

Before you begin assembly, make sure you have purchased all the necessary parts and prepared all the tools. Read the description of all the procedures to fully familiarize yourself with the upcoming work and to make sure you have everything you need at hand. In addition to the usual materials, you will need a gripping compound and liquid sealant, Renault recommends using Rhodorseal 5661 paste for the crankshaft and sump main bearing caps and Lostite 518 paste for the water pump (e7J and K7M engines) and the end cover of the cylinder head (k7M engine). Both sealants can be purchased at Renault service stations.

Assembly

To save time and avoid problems, assembly can be performed in the following order:

• a) Crankshaft.
• b) Pistons/connecting rods.
• c) Oil pump and sump.
• d) Flywheel/drive disk.
• e) Cylinder head.
• f) Toothed drive belt and toothed pulleys.
• g) External engine components.
