Note. Before proceeding, see the note provided at the beginning of the Section Bleeding the hydraulic system of the brakes.
Models not equipped with ABS
1. If any tube or hose needs to be replaced, remove the master cylinder reservoir cap and re-tighten it with a piece of polyethylene underneath to create an airtight seal and prevent fluid loss. Alternatively, pinch the hoses and plug the metal fittings. Place a rag under the disengaging sleeve to catch the escaping fluid.
2. If it is necessary to disconnect the hose, unscrew the union nut and remove the spring clip securing the hose to the bracket (refer to accompanying illustration).
3. In order to unscrew the connecting nuts, you need a special box wrench of a suitable size (refer to accompanying illustration). Alternatively, an appropriately sized double wrench can be used, although if the nuts are corroded there is a high risk of chipping them. In this case, use a self-locking wrench and replace the tube and damaged nuts. Be sure to clean the nut before unscrewing it.
4. If the brake pipe is to be replaced, purchase a ready-made replacement from a Renault workshop with the connecting nuts installed. Bend the new tube to the profile of the original and install it on the vehicle.
5. When installing, do not overtighten the union nuts.
6. Make sure tubing and hoses are routed correctly, not kinked, and securely secured with brackets or brackets. Also make sure that the hoses do not snag on adjacent components when the suspension and/or steering components are displaced. After installation, remove the polyethylene from under the tank cover (or plugs and clips) and bleed the brake hydraulic system as described in Section Bleeding the hydraulic system of the brakes. Wash off any spilled liquid and check the system for leaks.
Models equipped with ABS
Attention! On models equipped with ABS, before disconnecting the brake pipes, disconnect the ground cable from the battery and do not connect it until you finish bleeding. If this is not done, air may enter the hydraulic unit, which is very difficult to (in some cases not possible) pump. When disconnecting the battery on Scenic models, refer to Section Charge and launch systems.
1. See the paragraphs above, paying attention to the following:
- a) When disconnecting the brake pipe from the hydraulic unit, plug the opened channel of the unit immediately to prevent air from entering it (see Warning). Before connecting the tubing to the unit, make sure that both the port and the tubing are filled with liquid (refer to section Bleeding the hydraulic system of the brakes).
- b) If the brake pipe is separated from the master cylinder, it is necessary to bleed the cylinder before connecting it to the system (refer to section Bleeding the hydraulic system of the brakes).
