Elements of the gear shift mechanism
1 - gear lever handle; 2 - sealing cuff of the shift handle; 3 - shift lever with reverse blocker; 4 - control rod; 5 - mudguard; 6 - control rod spring; 7 - switch handle housing; 8 - intermediate plate.
If there are switching problems, they can be fixed relatively easily. First you need to check if the elements of the switching mechanism are bent and if the bushings of the above bearings are worn out. A specialized tool is used for adjustment (B.Vi.1133), which is available in auto repair shops and which is installed on the gearbox control shaft. In the absence of a specialized tool, work must be carried out together with an assistant.
1. Engage 1st gear.
2. Raise the car in front.
3. Remove the transmission mudguard.
4. To increase the working space, loosen the exhaust pipe if necessary and lower it slightly.
5. Unhook the return spring from the control rod.
6. Loosen the control rod clamp bolt.
7. In 1st gear, push the shift lever down and back.
8. Press the gearshift lever from the side towards the gearbox housing until a gap of 2 mm is formed between the lever and the housing.
9. In this position, tighten the torque control rod bolt again to 30 Nm. When doing this, make sure that the control rod is not twisted. The attachment points of the control shaft and the clamping part of the control rod must be degreased.
10. Check the clearance in the shift handle again. It should be between 2 and 5 mm.
