Combustion heat: the spark plug gap must be adjusted to the combustion chamber temperature created in the engine. This quality is called combustion heat. Its index indicates what temperature the spark plug can withstand, i.e. it can dissipate heat without becoming too hot itself. If the spark plug dissipates more heat than necessary, it does not reach its cleaning temperature and the spark plug electrodes become coated with carbon.
Electrodes: Renault 19 uses exclusively spark plugs with a tip electrode.
Thread: on Renault 19 spark plugs the threaded part length is 19 mm; the thread diameter is 14 mm.
Spanner size: The spark plug spanner hexagon on the C-type engine and on the F-type engine up to 81 kW is 20.8 mm (= 13/15") wide, on the 16-valve engine it is 16 mm (= 5/8"). A long socket wrench is required for this engine.
Sealing ring: All engines require spark plugs with a flat sealing surface. They are equipped with a permanent sealing ring and do not require additional sealing.
