High voltage wires (Renault 19)

The connecting wires of the ignition distributor to the spark plugs usually do not present any problems. If you need to replace the high-voltage wire, try to buy the original wire - it has the required length and is also equipped with new plug connections and suitable plug tips for the spark plugs.

Checking high voltage wires

1. Check if the wires are tightly inserted into the connectors. They can rise due to the expansion of the air in the tip and thus cause interruptions in the engine operation.

2. The ignition coil must have the wire tip retaining hooks properly engaged.

3. The connectors must not be oxidized and must have good contact with the spark plug connectors.

4. If sparks jump to ground near the spark plug, you will hear clicking or crackling sounds in the engine compartment.

5. In the dark, you can clearly see spark discharges jumping. The cause may be a layer of salt or worn-out wire insulation.

6. A high voltage wire with thinned or worn insulation should be replaced.
