- remove the cable sheath with the adjusting screw from the mounting bracket (Figure 3.102), if necessary, remove the spring retainer, remembering its position in the screw groove;
- inside the car, remove the decorative lower trim under the steering column and disconnect the cable from the gas pedal by squeezing the tabs on its end;
- in the engine compartment, release the cable fasteners from the engine shield and remove it from the car;
- inspect the cable, make sure there are no abrasions and that it moves freely in the sheath.
Installation
The cable is installed in the reverse order of removal.
Adjustment procedure:
- slide the adjusting bracket off the outer cable housing under the hood. With the bracket removed, make sure the sector is pulled back to the stop. Gently pull the cable out of the seal to take up the slack;
- holding the outer cable sheath in this position, install the bracket into the last groove in the sheath before the bracket with the rubber seal and before the washer. The slack in the cable should now be minimal. The slack in the cable is necessary to obtain a stable idle speed;
- have an assistant press the accelerator pedal and check that the throttle valve opens fully and returns smoothly to its original position.
