The cable connecting the gas pedal and the throttle valve of the injection system is very sensitive to bending. If it was removed during work in the engine compartment and then bent at an acute angle, it must be replaced.

After washing the engine, the gas cable must be lubricated. A signal of cable failure is a heavy stroke of the gas pedal. This means that the throttle control cable may soon break. You should also be careful with the new throttle control cable when installing it.

Replacing the gas cable

1. Disconnect the throttle control cable by moving the safety clip on the gas pedal to the side

2. Disconnect the pipes and remove the air filter.

3. Press the clamps of the throttle cable support and remove its casing, or to do this, unscrew the lock nut in the throttle support.

4. Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle shaft lever.

5. If necessary, detach the return spring.

6. Remove the guide nozzle on the front wall of the engine compartment and pull the gas cable out of the engine compartment towards you through the front wall.

7. When installing, make sure that the throttle cable casing is not damaged.

Installing the throttle cable

1. Ask an assistant to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor.

2. Remove the cable housing clamp from the support and, accordingly, loosen the lock nut.

3. Pull the throttle cable cover until the throttle valve is in the full fuel position.

4. Slide the clamp in the support onto the throttle cable housing and tighten the lock nut accordingly.

5. Release the gas pedal and press it again.

6. Check whether the throttle shaft lever directly reaches the maximum fuel supply position limiter, adjust if necessary.

After installing the new throttle control cable, the end of the sheath (3) of the throttle control cable (4), which has a groove or thread (3) when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, must protrude from the support (1) outward so that the throttle shaft lever reaches the maximum fuel supply position. The mounted clamps (2) or, respectively, the nut with lock nut (2) secure the throttle control cable.

On the left is the throttle control cable on the Bendix single-point injection system, on the right is the Bosch single-point injection system.
