- 1 - the ignition is off, consumers such as an audio system, cigarette lighter, interior lighting, etc. can be turned on. When the key is removed, the steering wheel locking device is turned on;
- 2 - ignition on;
- 3 - starter is on.
When the starter is turned on, all powerful consumers of electricity (headlights, air conditioning, etc.) turn off.
The key is equipped with an electronic engine start blocking system controlled by a key identification system with a changing encrypted random code.
The engine immobilizer system is activated a few seconds after the ignition is turned off, as evidenced by the flashing of the red signal lamp located in the instrument cluster.
At the factory, the car is assigned a twelve-digit code to initialize the electronic engine immobilizer system.
During the after-sales period, the specified code may be required for the following purposes:
- add keys;
- replace one or more keys;
- unregister one or more keys (e.g. in case of loss or theft);
- replace the electronic control unit (ECU).
To obtain an after-sales code, you need to know the serial number of the car, for this you should contact the technical service of Renault cars.
Figure 2.1. Ignition key head with coded electronic circuit (arrow)
Figure 2.2. receiving ring (arrow), located around the ignition switch
The immobilizer system includes a key head with a coded electronic circuit (Figure 2.1) and a receiving ring located around the ignition lock (Figure 2.2) and equipped with an electronic circuit for transmitting the key code to the computer.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, the ignition key can only be inserted when the selector lever is in the «R».
When it is difficult to turn the key from the position «1» (with steering wheel locked) into position «2» move the steering wheel slightly left and right and turn the key at the same time.
Do not remove the key from the ignition until the vehicle has come to a complete stop to avoid steering lock while driving.
Each time the engine is restarted by the starter, turn the key to the «1», to protect the starter from damage.
If the ignition key is removed while the headlights or radio are on, a reminder buzzer will sound after the door is opened.
