Removal and installation the inner steering rod joint (Renault Symbol 1)

Attention! To avoid damage to the steering gear, it is recommended to use the device for removing and installing the inner ball joint of the steering rod Dir 1305-01 and Dir 1306.

• raise the front of the car and place safety supports under the body;
• remove the steering tip as described above;
• remove the plastic clamp securing the steering rod bellows and remove the boot, which is recommended to be replaced regardless of its condition;
• turn the wheels so that the toothed part of the rack comes out of the steering gear housing;

• install the Dir 1306 device on the toothed part of the rack, which is a clamp for fixing the rack from turning (Fig. 6.26);

• in this position, unlock the inner joint of the steering rod using the Dir 1305-01 tool (Fig. 6.27);

• unscrew the inner joint from the steering rod (Fig. 6.28);
• check the inner hinge - tight rotation or excessive play of the hinge is not allowed;
• inspect the rack teeth, make sure they are intact and not worn;
• the steering rod should not be bent, otherwise replace the rod.

• before installation, clean the threaded parts of the parts from sealant;
• install the thrust washer and lock washer assembly onto the toothed rack, the inner ball joint of the steering rod, having first applied a small amount of Loctite Frenbloc to the threads of the pin, being careful not to block the air bleed hole;
• using the tools, tighten the inner ball joint of the steering rod to the specified torque, remove the tools;
• set the steering to the middle position to equalize the amount of air in the boots;
• install a new bellows and secure it with a new clamp, after lubricating the supporting surface of the bellows on the inner ball joint of the steering rod;
• check the air circulation in the system by pressing lightly on one corrugated cover and making sure that the other cover inflates.
