Adjusting the rack stop (Renault Symbol 1)

If there is play in the steering mechanism, accompanied by a knocking noise, before deciding to replace the entire mechanism, you should make sure that the rack stop is adjusted correctly.



At the bottom of the steering gear, use a 10 mm Allen key to unlock the adjusting nut (Fig. 6.29) by twisting the notched flanges. Tighten the nut no more than one tooth and make sure that the rack moves easily throughout its entire travel. Notch the nut at the points shown in the figure.
