- a) DO NOT use leaded gasoline on a vehicle equipped with a catalytic converter, as this will reduce conversion efficiency and eventually damage the converter.
- b) Always keep the ignition and fuel system in good condition.
- With) If the engine misfires, do not drive the vehicle at all (or at least as little as possible) until the damage is repaired.
- d) DO NOT attempt to tow start the vehicle - the catalytic converter will be saturated with unburned fuel, which may cause overheating after starting the engine.
- e) DO NOT turn off the ignition at high engine speeds.
- f) DO NOT use fuel or engine oil additives - they may contain substances harmful to the catalytic converter.
- g) DO NOT operate the vehicle if the engine is noticed to be burning oil (blue smoke).
- h) Remember that the catalytic converter operates at very high temperatures. DO NOT park your vehicle on dry leaves, long grass.
- i) Remember that the catalytic converter is FRAGILE - do not hit it with tools during service.
- j) In some cases, the smell of hydrogen sulfide may be felt from the exhaust system (like the smell of rotten eggs). This is normal for many vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter. After several thousand kilometers, the problem should disappear.
- k) The life of the catalytic converter on a well maintained vehicle should be between 80,000 and 160,000 kilometers - if the efficiency of the converter is reduced, replace it.
